WBGT index (wet bulb globe temperature index): WBGT refers to the wet bulb globe temperature, which is a fundamental parameter for comprehensively evaluating the human body's exposure to thermal load in working environments, measured in degrees. It is used to assess the average thermal load on the human body. It utilizes the natural wet bulb temperature (Tnw) and the globe temperature (Tg), with the addition of the air dry bulb temperature (Ta) in open-air conditions. The WBGT index is calculated as follows:
Indoors or outdoors without solar radiation: WBGT = 0.7 Tnw + 0.3 Tg
Outdoors with solar radiation: WBGT = 0.7 Tnw + 0.2 Tg + 0.1 Ta
Thermal load (heat stress): Refers to the degree of heat exposure experienced by the human body working in a hot environment, expressed by the WBGT index, and depends on the heat production from physical labor and the characteristics of heat exchange between the environment and the human body.
